On October 1st, I found again that getting ready is essential for success. I got a job offer from the company I will enter after graduation from university this April. The company held a “newbie ceremony” at its building called the Comprehensive Center in Osaka on October 1st for new recruits.
One day, I was given a mission by the human resources employee before the ceremony was held. The mission was to read an address replying beck to the president’s encouragement one for the new recruits. When I got the call, I felt honored, but at the same time, a little nervous, too. Referring to two previous addresses sent to me, I wrote an original one, and sent it to the company to check. After making sure my address was suitable for the ceremony twice, the time when I would have to read it got closer. Not to read it out loud with a shaking voice, I decided to practice reading and to give myself confidence. I went to a karaoke booth alone with my address paper and read it again and again through a microphone. That was the first preparation I did by myself for success.
My second form of preparation happened on the day, October 1st. I arrived at the center two hours earlier than the opening of the ceremony since I planned to practice the actions in the ceremony and read out loud the address. One HR employee and I did it together, and that was helpful because I could imagine how to behave during the ceremony. After having lunch with him, at 1:00 pm, the ceremony finally started. It’s held in a medium-sized hall, 23 new recruits including me were in the hall and 10 board members sat in front of us. After the introduction of each board member, the receiving of the offer confirmation, and then the president’s address, my turn came. I was not nervous but confident because I knew how to walk in the front of the president, read out loud the address, and fold the paper to give him, so I carried out the mission. Practicing those steps was the factor for my success. Without this practice, I would have felt more nervous and would have not been that confident when I was in front of all the participants.
CTherefore, I was able to realize again that to keep practicing is the huge factor for succeeding. Those two steps -reading out loud alone in the karaoke box and practicing with a partner in the real situation- gave me confidence and better understanding of what to do in the ceremony. Getting ready for the actual performance is necessary for the success.
It is said by some, that BTS is like the Beatles of the present generation. Of course, there are so many K-pop idols in Korea, but why has the world gone crazy for BTS, and what are the reasons for BTS being considered as one of the biggest and most popular groups in the world?
The first reason is due to their sincere communication with their fans. They usually communicate with each other via SNS and various applications. So, BTS creates a strong emotional bond with fans by sharing their lives and thoughts. Their fandom name is called the ”Army”. It means that BTS and fandom are always with each other because the uniform and army are always together. After all, they have mutually beneficial relationship. When a fan gets good energy from BTS, they give back their love to BTS in various ways.
Secondly, it is due to their good songs and lyrics. Their lyrics are mostly about comforting and touching songs for young people and socially underprivileged people. They also give good messages to people, not only about love songs between men and women. Also, there are many hit songs among them. Moreover, most of the members are good at composing and writing the lyrics, and even producing large portions of the entire album personally. It makes their position shine even higher as true global artists.
Finally, their performance is extraordinary. In fact, the reason for the influx of foreign fans is because of this perfect military dance maneuvers. Most of the songs famous for their perfect military dances can be seen well in strong beat songs such as ”IDOL, DOPE, MIC-Drop, Fake Love, Dionysus and DNA.” Especially, there is a trio called the dance line among them who always center their performances to create perfection with their military dance. In addition, J-Hope, who holds the position as leader of the dance among members, was already famous for dancing in his hometown of Gwangju before his debut. If you are curious about J-Hope’s dance skills, you can watch J-Hope and Becky-G’s remake song of “Chicken Noodle Soup” on YouTube.
Actually, there are many another reasons why BTS is
popular. The above are just three reasons why. If you want to know more about
BTS, you should join in the “Army”.
Students majoring nutrition educated students and citizens at Hamada
Campus of the University of Shimane on October 13, 2019, presenting their
research results at the University’s school festival open to the public.
Students from the Department of Health and Nutrition presented their research results on the survey of eating habits of college students.
Healthy eating habits
By Ayaka Kawamoto, Moeka Kobayashi, Chihiro Sasaki, Manami Shirao, Rina Sota, and Kanon Tsuji
According to the research conducted by a group of students majoring
nutrition, both male and female students look at the energy figure in the label
of the nutrition values. They also found
boys tended to buy prepared foods at convenience stores more often than girls. Generally
speaking, college students tend to consume excessive carbohydrates.
This result is no wonder because many university students live alone
in apartments away from their families, feeling cumbersome to cook proper meals
every day. College students are busy due to classes and part-time jobs. How can
they improve their eating habits? If a student buy a boxed lunch, salad and
yogurt at a convenience store, it would be healthier but too expensive.
Based on their research findings, they
proposed a wise shopping habit. They suggested that students should buy fruits
and dairy products such as oranges, milk and yogurt at a supermarket and keep
them in the fridge at home, and that they should eat these when they eat
prepared boxed lunch from a convenience store.
In this way, students will be able to enjoy a healthier diet with a good
balance of nutrition, but it will be still not so expensive.
At the end of their presentation, the
young nutrition experts asked the audience which one should combine with
spaghetti: potato salad or cut vegetable.
The correct answer is cut vegetable. Thanks
to their educational presentation, most of the audience answered correctly.
Their educational presentation was a great success!
One male student asked why they were so
beautiful, although the answer was obvious. Good food!
The students are aspiring to be certified dietitians when they graduate from college. The Department of Health and Nutrition at the University of Shimane is the first program for registered dietitians in the area.
Beauty from within
By Koharu Ichoda, Saya Sugai and Aiko Maejima
What is beauty? You might think beauty is
the result of good make-up and fashion. For young nutrition experts, nutritious
foods are the source of beauty. In order to be truly beautiful, you should eat
good foods including vegetables and fruits.
The students made a presentation of
healthy eating habits using models and panels. They demonstrated how protein
contributed to formation of muscles and internal organs in the human body.
They explained to the audience how protein
taken into the body from foods were broken down into amino acids in the body
and turned into new proteins for the skin, hair and all the parts of the human
body. In other words, beauty is the result of this cycle of amino acids.
There are two types of protein. The animal
protein is included in meat and fish. The vegetable protein is included in
beans and serials. Both types have different health benefits, so it is wise to take
in both of them.
They introduced a recipe for beauty as
follows:
Tuna toast
Ingredients:
One piece of
bread
Half a can of
tuna
Half a pack of
fermented beans called natto
Appropriate quantity of mayonnaise
1. Apply
mayonnaise lightly on bread
2. Spread tuna
and natto on the bread
3. Toast it for
3 to 4 minutes
This recipe is easy to prepare. The students hope that male students
of Hamada Campus try this recipe. The Hamada Campus has a lot of male students
as the major is policy studies.
Natto is a fermented soybean food popular in Japan.
Common purpose and teamwork produce friendship
By Ayaka Joichi, Yu Takayama and Sachika Yashiro
An international collaborative activity between Korean students and
Japanese students brought joy of learning and fulfilling relationships among
the students majoring in nutrition.
The joint study seminar was conducted in Oki Island, an island off
Shimane Prefecture, Japan in July, 2019 by Department of the Department of
Health and Nutrition of the University of Shimane.
Three Korean students from Daegu Health College joined in the
international study seminar of eating habits in Japan, which was organized in
an effort to educate young students to become registered dietitians.
The Korean and Japanese students conducted a survey together to
investigate the eating habits of residents in the remote island.
The students had an opportunity to present their results at a local
store, but they faced great difficulty of collecting listeners, because they
were not able to use a microphone. It was very challenging to gain the attention
of shoppers.
The heart-broken students learned to speak louder and to hook the audience
with interesting remarks and gestures.
It was very challenging for Korean students to ask questions in
Japanese because their spoken Japanese was limited.
Both Korean and Japanese students formed a strong friendship because
they stayed under the same roof for three nights. The Korean students cooked
breakfast and dinner and they chatted in English and Japanese at night. One
night when Japanese students, who were still in the middle of the semester,
studied late at night for their final exams, the Korean students brought some
fruit for night snack saying “yashoku” which means “meal for night.” The
Japanese students were very grateful.
What made the seminar special was the common purpose. The
participants in this seminar are young students who want to become nutrition
specialists. It was easy for them to overcome linguistic and cultural
differences because they were bound together by a common purpose to make the
world a better place by promoting health. They felt as if they were part of a
team.
The students also visited a facility for disabled people, where they
had an opportunity to interact with people of disability, and they were
impressed by how people with disabilities contributed to the society.
This joint seminar is part of the international agreement between the University of Shimane and Daegu Health College. The 83 freshmen and sophomores of the Department of Health and Nutrition participated in the exchange with the Korean students.
What was the biggest risk you ever took in your life? Stealing something, doing skydiving or living in another country which has a different language from your native language? The last one was the biggest risk I took in my whole life.
I am an exchange student from Turkey at Centro Universitário de Jaguariúna, Uni FAJ in Jaguariúna in Sao Paulo in Brazil. In my country, the college students must do two internships for graduation, so I had been looking for a good company to do an internship since the beginning of the first semester, when I heard an opportunity to do an internship at Uni FAJ, Brazil. I felt both happy and worried, because I couldn’t speak Portuguese and I had no information about the country when I heard that I had the opportunity to do an internship in Brazil. Being aware of the advantages of doing an internship, however, I decided to study in Brazil, because I knew doing an internship in a foreign country will help me develop personal and professional skills.
From the first day here, I met many new people and I experienced a lot of new things. Brazil and Turkey are on the different half-spheres, so the seasons are opposite. It was winter here but it was summer in Turkey. The differences of seasons were weird for me too. Languages are also different. I started to learn some expressions such as “hi,” “thank you,” “sorry,” etc. in Portuguese, and now I can buy water speaking Portuguese. Brazilian people always like to have fun. One day I saw two women walking on the street and they had a speaker and had some drinks on their hands. They looked very happy, so, as far as I’ve seen, Brazilian people know how they can enjoy life, dance and be happy with the smallest things.
Foods are very different. Turkey’s food culture is quite rich and wide. So, in the beginning, it was a bit difficult to get used to foods in Brazil. But the girls I stayed with were always encouraging me to try new things. So, I tried esfiha, pastel, empadão and pao de queijo. I love them. However, I tried Coxinha and I didn’t like it. Brazilian B.B.Q. is also different. In Brazil they don’t use too much spice on their food but they always put salt on the meat. Brazilian desserts have too much sugar, which is not good for me.
Geography is also very different. When I decided to come here, I thought three months would be enough to explore all Brazil. But I didn’t realize how big is Brazil! I tried to visit places as much as I could. I visited Holambra. Holambra was like little Holland. There were windmills and bridge with padlocks. I asked my friend why there looked like Holland, she told me that the first person who came to the region where is Holambra was Dutch so he/she tried to simulate this place to be like Holland. Also, I went to Rio de Janeiro. It was amazing. When I saw the view of the city I was fascinated. The city has lakes, beaches, mountains, parks, luxurious buildings and favelas, which are poor areas, at the same time. There are too many places to see in Brazil.
In addition to these new experiences, I encountered situations to solve problems. I got out of my comfort zone with my family and friends. Shopping was a challenge. I must figure what to buy. Also living with someone you don’t know is hard, too. I needed figure out solutions and carry on.
To sum up, coming here was the best decision for me in my whole life. If I hadn’t come here, I couldn’t have seen this beautiful place and couldn’t met these amazing people. I would like to advise all college students to experience an internship in a foreign country. So don’t limit yourself. Your only limit should be the sky. If you want to do something, just believe in yourself. Never be afraid of making a mistake. Be sure that our mistakes are the greatest experience for improving ourselves.
Have you heard of Ulsan in South Korea? Most Koreans, even people living in Ulsan, often say that Ulsan is only one of the many industrial cities in Korea and that there are not any tourist attractions.
However, this article will show why Ulsan is one of most attractive and environmentally friendly cities in Korea, which will hopefully entice you to come visit us in future.
Ulsan is a special city, which consists of majestic mountains and beautiful beaches. There are seven ranges of mountains in Ulsan namely Mount Gaji, Unmun, Cheonhwang, Sinbul, Yeongchuk, Goheon, and Ganwol.
They are collectively called the “Yeongnam Alps” because they are as attractive as the Alps in Europe. Especially in autumn, Mount Sinbul, is famous for its spectacular eye-catching, golden-silver grass.
Also, Ulsan has two unique beaches, Gangdong and Jujeon (Pebble Beach). These beaches have mongdol, which are round pebbles, instead of sand and these types of beaches are extremely rare.
The sound these mongdol pebbles make as the waves washes against them sounds like a marvelous, harmonious song which people find unforgettable. Another beach, Ganjeolgot, is the place where the sun rises first in Korea.
Ulsan also has one of the leading global automotive manufactures, Hyundai Motors, right in the heart of the city, and offers spectacular tours on site to visitors.
Interestingly, Hyundai recently began to design a bus, which is operated by a hydrogen fuel cell, and has run tests in Ulsan on November 22nd, 2018.
As a result, Ulsan has been officially made the first city in Korea with a hydrogen fuel-cell-powered bus.
Regrettably, in its quest to become more industrialized, the city destroyed many beautiful natural environments and sites like the “Bangudae” Petroglyphs, one of the most important and most worthwhile pre-historic sites in the world.
Thus, by using hydrogen-fuel cell buses, Ulsan is trying to show its commitment in trying to recover and protect nature.
Many people think that Ulsan has fewer places to visit than other cities because it is an industrial city.
However, Ulsan is a beautiful and natural environmentally friendly city and offers more than you can ever imagine.
Ulsan has not only many manufacturing companies, but also it has many charming places to visit. Yes, Korea has many places to travel around like Seoul, Busan, and Jeju Island.
But why not try to take a trip to an unusual place like Ulsan at least once in your life?
Until a few a years ago, many people did not know much about Netflix.
Koreans for example, usually watched TV shows or movies through TV services connected to telephone operators such as “Olleh TV” or “BTV”; however, many people have started to use Netflix these days, not only in Korea, but globally as well, and here are some reasons why.
First of all, Netflix is not only cheap but also good quality. Netflix costs only 10 dollars per month and people can share one ID with up to 4 people.
Therefore, each person only has to pay about two dollars and fifty cents per month if you gather three other people to share your Netflix ID with.
Cheap does not mean that the service is bad. We can stream and download TV programs and movies without buffering; we can enjoy watching videos at a cheap price and good quality through Netflix.
Another reason is usability. Imagine that you want to watch a specific TV show or a movie through TV.
You have to find the channel and time schedule, but you do not have to do this if you use Netflix. Netflix can be used whenever and wherever.
In my case, my commute time is very long, but I am not bored because I always watch movies that I want to see.
We can even download videos in Wi-fi zones, so we can enjoy movies without the burden of data prices.
To sum up, Netflix can be used wherever you want and will ensure that your spare time will not be boring.
The final reason why people love Netflix is a specialty. Netflix offers not only usual videos but also special videos.
These days, Netflix produces their own dramas and movies, so you can enjoy a bigger variety of videos if you use Netflix.
Some people joined Netflix specifically so that that they can watch dramas, movies and various new videos. For these reasons, most Korean consumers have now started to use to use Netflix.
If you use Netflix, you can watch TV shows and movies at a cheap price. Also, you can enjoy it anywhere and watch a variety of videos.
So, if you are wondering whether you should sign up or not, why not join Netflix in order to make the most of your free time?
Have you ever used Google Maps when you travel? If so, you might want to continue reading since it could save you a major headache later on.
Taehwa river is located in Ulsan, South Korea, and is one of Ulsan’s top tourist spots. However, the river is wrongly recorded as Yamato River on Google Maps.
When the Ulsan City Government found this error, they requested for this situation to be rectified.
At first, Ulsan City did not receive any news or feedback from Google for nearly two months. However, Google did change the name as soon as Ulsan Broadcasting system reported it in newspapers and via broadcasters.
These Google Map errors do not only occur here in Korea. In America for example, Google Maps also have incorrect addresses.
For many years, Google Maps sent people to the incorrect location, the “Storm Mountain Center”, when they had in fact typed “Mount Rushmore”.
It was about thirteen miles away from the actual Mount Rushmore. This caused problems because many tourists lost their way and never got to see the real Mount Rushmore.
Google Maps is an essential element for travelers. Nowadays, it is hard to find people who do not own a smartphone possibly making use of Google Maps when they travel.
So, if the information is wrong it can be confusing and cause all sorts of problems for tourists.
To avoid this from happening in your neighborhood, city or country, how about doing some research on your city, finding errors and reporting them to Google so they can be corrected?
My name is Lorena, I am 21 years old and I am originally from the south of Germany. My home University is University of Pforzheim and it is close to the Black Forest.
I am currently taking part in a double degree program which brought me to ESAN in Lima. My major is marketing and this is my fourth semester.
I love Peru, it’s delicious food and the cheerful Salsa rhythm but from time to time I really miss German traditional music and food.
Maybe you have heard of the Oktoberfest which is originally from Munich, the capital of Bavaria, a state in the south of Germany.
I live close to this city and I will introduce you to our traditions, one example is Oktoberfest party. Even though it is called Oktoberfest, it starts in September and lasts three weeks.
This event already existed since 1820 and was first celebrated on the occasion of the wedding of the Bavarian prince Ludwig. People from all around the world visit Munich just to see this traditional German party with their own eyes.
In the pictures you can see the traditional dresses girls wear that we call Dirndl. On the right you can see boys wearing leather pants, jackets and a traditional shirt with squares.
This is also a famous Oktoberfest outfit. In the background you can see roller coasters and a Ferris wheel. This is part of the fair and people go their with the whole family to have a good time.
The main activity during the day is walking around the huge fair, eat a lot of delicious food like sausages, different kinds of bread and of course: beer, but be careful if you ever go there because the beer at Oktoberfest contains more alcohol than normal beer.
My favourite food is Brezel, which is a special bread with a lot of salt. The atmosphere during the party is very relaxed, friendly and everything is connected to our traditions.
People also dance in big tents, there is always live music. They usually play music which I enjoy a lot.

Since the prehistoric era, man has maintained a relationship with animals, which were used for various purposes, such as the protection of territory, transport of cargo, hunting, and also as a source of heating in very low temperatures for man.
The interaction between man and animal is more noticeable when the animal is domesticated because they represent a source of attachment and affection.
Brazil has the largest animal population in the world, with about 106 million, ranking fourth place among other countries, being also the second largest country in the pet market. Research reports that 57% of the world population and 76% of Brazilians have at least one pet.
These data reveal the great domestication and acceptance of animals in the family environment, and being increasingly close to human beings. Brazil has the largest animal population in the world, with about 106 million, ranking fourth place among other countries, being also the second largest country in the pet market.
This fact becomes more interesting when domestic animals are used by professionals for beneficial use in the area of human health, no longer being seen only as companions, but also as physical and mental aids, serving as a very important “tool” for the current days, in which we witness many diseases around us.
Some benefits reported by researchers are: a significant decrease in psychological disorders, emotional improvement, reduction of loneliness, and the promotion of relief and comfort in moments of loss.
Furthermore, pets favor children and the elderly, and pet owners have more controlled blood pressure and stress, with less of a chance of having heart problems.
It is of great importance to point out that animals are sentient beings; that is, they feel fear, pain, stress, love, longing, and more importantly, they feel the joy that is transmitted to humans beings, so their emotional capacity is remarkable, very similar to ours.
With the passing of the time and through the process of evolution, today these incredible animals are very useful in treatments for example, assisting as guide dogs, serving as inseparable companions of the visually impaired; pet therapy, and helping in the treatment of diseases such as depression and stress.
Also, Equine-therapy with the use of horses helps disabled people, while guard dogs assist Policemen and Firemen in their most risky emergencies.
We can also mention the case of two dogs of the border-collie breed that worked to rescue people, in the tragedy that occurred in 2015 in Brazil, where the Mariana dam, located in Minas Gerais was broken; dolphins are also trained to provide therapy for autistic children.
The presence and cooperation of these animals can be seen as highly efficient, and can be considered as irreplaceable because they are capable of improving difficult situations, providing an incentive to disadvantaged people.
Although cases of mistreatment and abandonment of these animals are still so frequent, there are good people who treat them with their due value by regarding them as family members.
Even with the difficulty of not being able to communicate verbally, these animals still have the admirable ability to accept their handlers whilst providing them with the hope of healing.
By Glenda Souza da Silva Centro Universitário de Jaguariúna
The use of animals in scientific re search is an issue that has generated many discussion in Brazilian and global society, since the concern with animals, which are considered sentient beings; that is, capable of feeling pain and suffering, has been growing, causing conflict and doubt about its use in scientific experiments.
The big questions to be analyzed are whether there is still a need to use them for such experiments, if there are no other ways to perform the procedures and to what extent this method should be used.
Animals such as monkeys, rabbits, dogs and especially mice have been used since ancient times until present. This happens because they are considered the only ones able to promote a better explanation of how the human body works, and through them, experiments are performed to analyze the development and prophylaxis of diseases that can affect society in general.
Even with the current technological evolution, animals continue to be considered the main means of accessing such discoveries. Individuals involved with the protection of animals believe that the practice can be considered dispensable, claiming that there is great feasibility in using other research methods for the occasion.
Moreover, the interpretations of such experiments can generate failures in their conclusions since they are carried out in a certain animal species to be applied in another species, which is completely different, such as the case of the human being.
Even in the face of this polemic, many scientific research centers are still experimenting on animals with the main purpose of discovering cures for serious and lethal diseases or understanding the mechanism of the appearance of various diseases that can affect both humans and other species.
What has been done, in view of the above mentioned aspects, is in situations where there are no other forms besides the use of animals, one must use as few of them as possible to obtain valid results.
The method should be well chosen and analyzed in order not to cause pain and suffering to the animals in question, having sedative and anesthetic aid. It is of paramount importance that well-qualified professionals, so as not to cause great discomfort to the animal, develop the procedures.
Animals must be placed in appropriate locations in order to reduce stress and, where possible, must be replaced by other methods of research.
Animal experimentation, especially for scientific research, should not necessarily be banned, since the progress made through the animals in the knowledge of physiology, pharmacology and pathology would not have been possible without the use of the same for the performance of the procedures, and to this day, several diseases and their respective treatments are mostly discovered through these methods, and are considered of paramount importance for the control of diseases of the population as a whole.
What should be taken into serious account where ethics is concerned, is the proper management and provision of the best possible welfare of the animals used, in addition to inspecting whether there really is a need to use them for certain procedures.
Alternative ways should not be overlooked and studied so that soon, these animals will no longer be the main means of discovering diseases and their respective preventions, these animals can then live in a free way.
